TITANIC: CASE CLOSED / TITANIC'S FINAL MYSTERY
National Geographic Channels International and Smithsonian Channel have ordered a feature length drama-documentary from Airborne TV & Film, and Bedlam Productions - producers of The King’s Speech. The film is due for broadcast on the centenary of the tragedy in April 2012, alongside James Cameron’s latest documentary on the subject.

Taken from first person testimonies, the film will combine drama and documentary to piece together the hours immediately before and after the collision to reveal how she was doomed from the outset. With the forces of nature conspiring against her in a ‘cosmic storm’, the film uses modern science to prove conclusively that her sinking and the subsequent loss of life was an incredible confluence of events that led to an inevitable disaster. The film finally delivers revelatory evidence as to why she hit the iceberg, ending one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th Century.

Based on the groundbreaking books by Tim Maltin, Britain’s foremost authority on Titanic, the film heads to locations across Europe, North America and the Atlantic Ocean. The film also brings to life the unique meteorological conditions of the night and resurrects the ship with a combination of vivid effects and dramatic reconstruction. Director Nigel Levy has previously directed a number of high profile drama-documentaries, including The Da Vinci Detective for Channel 4.

Stephen Hunter, VP of Development and Production for NGCI, commented, “While many have speculated what ultimately sealed Titanic’s fate, Titanic: Case Closed reveals crucial missing pieces that fill the gap of our knowledge about the ship’s doomed journey. NGCI is excited to partner with Bedlam Productions and Airborne TV & Film on this special and offer key insight into what took down the unsinkable.”

The film is Executive Produced by Simon Breen of Bedlam Productions, and Stuart Burrage of Airborne TV & Film.
